Curriculum vitae
Born in 1958, I finished the Scientific High
School in 1977, graduated in Industrial
Engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan in 1983
and gave my National service as an officer of
the Air Force Technical Service (retraining in
November 1999).
Since 1986, researcher at the University of
Brescia – Faculty of Engineering, in the field
of Technologies and Productive Systems. Since
1998, associate professor in Industrial Plants
in the same Faculty and, in 2005, full
professorship.
Subjects taught: General Services of Industrial
Plants, Mechanical Technology, Production
Planning, Industrial Technologies, Environmental
Compatibility of Industrial Plants, Optimisation
and Maintenance of Industrial Plants.
Master programmes: Production Planning and
Supply Chain management, Management of Small and
Medium Enterprises.
Administrative duties:
Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechanical
and Industrial Plants: since 1992, responsible
for International Mobility Programmes (such as
Socrates Erasmus projects, double degree with
Georgia Tech of Atlanta). Member of two boards
of PhD programmes (Materials for engineering and
Design and Management of Integrated prodictive
and Logistics systems), member of the “Centre
for appropriate technologies for the management
of environment in developing countries”.
University of Brescia: member of the Academic
Senate (2001-2002) and member of the Council of
Research (2001-2006). Local co-ordinator of UE-TEMPUS
Projects and projects funded by the Italian
Ministry of Research and the National Council of
Research.
Coordinator of the VIIIth International Summer
School on Inventory Management (Brescia, July
30th –August 3rd 2007).
Responsible of the Interlink Project on
Sustainable Supply Chains with the Universities
of Magdeburg, Mannheim, Lulea and Linkoping.
Member of the Italian Academic Committee of
Industrial Plants (2000-2006 and since 2008).

Main scientific
interests:
Simulation
of industrial systems, mathematical modelling
and optimisation (also by heuristic techniques),
management of production and resources in
uncertain environments (e.g. steel plants),
environmental aspects in manufacturing
processes, stock management in Supply Chains,
safety of workplaces (in particular, analysis of
injuries in the area of Brescia), evaluation of
new/alternative materials in product
manufacturing, economic evaluation of new plants
and resource management (e.g., layout).
Other activities:
since 1994: technical consultant for the Court
of Brescia;
1999-2002: independent member of the
administrative board of a company for the
management of municipal services, including
energy and gas distribution, supply and
treatment of water, waste collection;
2005-2009: independent member of the home town
council.
